Duodecimo. xii, 201, [i] pages. A6-S6 (S6 blank). Nineteenth-century half red calf over marbled boards, repaired. First published in 1628, this famous character book went through many editions. Even eighteenth-century editions are not common. None of the major institutions in the US and the UK show holdings prior to the 1732 edition, and very few have copies of the 1786 edition. A fine copy. With the bookplate of Adolphus William Ward, Master of Peterhouse, English historian and man of letters (1837-1924).
